Andrews County Library Brings Enhanced Digital Services to Patrons through Baker & Taylor’s Innovative Axis 360 Digital Media Library

Andrews , TX – January 31, 2013 – Andrews County Library, your link to the world, today announced the availability of Baker & Taylor’s Axis 360 digital media library for its patrons.

Axis 360 is a revolutionary digital media platform, providing libraries and their patrons with a state-of-the-art system for circulating enhanced digital content and Blio, the ground-breaking ereading software.

Libraries using the Axis 360 service benefit from the latest Web technologies and cloud-based delivery to mobile devices. Patrons at Andrews County Library will enjoy the dynamic presentation of titles on the Axis 360 Magic Wall, the ease of locating books of interest via Browse by Subject pages, as well as guidance provided via book reviews and recommendations for further reading. Axis 360 also improves the user experience for borrowing digital content from the library. Cloud-based delivery greatly simplifies the process of downloading what patrons want to read onto the devices they prefer to use, including iOS, Android and Windows tablets and smartphones.

Axis 360 is available to patrons now.

Reading with Ringling

The Andrews County Library is participating in Reading with Ringling Bros.! Read five (5) books from the Andrews County Library and earn a free ticket to the circus. To receive your free ticket present the five (5) books you've read to a clerk at the front desk. You will also get a free clown nose for your participation. This program is open to children from ages 2-12.

Tenth Annual Friends of the Library Fundraiser

The Andrews County Library Friends of the Library held their 10th Annual Gala on February 5, 2011 at the Andrews Country Club.

This fun-filled evening consist of a murder mystery with a dinner incorporated in the plot, a raffle for either $2000 in cash or 2 airplane tickets, and a silent auction that included items such as trips, jewelry, electronics, art and much more. It is a wonderful opportunity for the citizens of Andrews to dress in their finest, have a great meal, be entertained, shop, and, most important, support their public library. This is the primary fund raiser for the Friends of the Library and, over the years, they have used the funds raised to fund the Summer Reading Program for the last 10 years, buy much needed equipment, support financially the library's web page, allow the library to become a WiFi hotspot, and much, much more.

Cast for the evenings events and entertainment are Liz Stottlemyre, Jerry Tochterman, Judy the Blowup Doll, Ronnie Johnson, Sherilyn Brown, Trae Porter, and Scott Lovato.

New Resource Announcement

Andrews County Library now offers Mango Languages for free, easy and fun foreign language learning.

Andrews County Library has added Mango Languages to its growing list of patron resources. Mango is free of charge to all (Library name) members and is the easiest and most effective way to learn to speak a foreign language. Mango is available in two versions:

Mango Basic:

Perfect for a foreign language beginner, Mango Basic teaches everyday greetings, gratitudes, goodbyes and helpful phrases in a short period of time. The courses, which require only two to five hours of time to complete, are currently available in 22 foreign languages and 14 English as a Second Language (ESL) courses.

Mango Complete:

Mango Complete offers a 100-lesson course that digs much deeper and is designed to provide a more complete understanding of the entire language and culture. It is available in nine foreign language and three ESL courses. Foreign language courses include Chinese, French, German, Greek, Italian, Japanese, Portuguese, Russian and Spanish. ESL courses include Polish, Spanish and Portuguese.
